Bush's "Man"

Wil Wheaton is furious - and understandably so.

Earlier today Reuters published a story about how George Bush is a "fan" of the "Iraqi Information Minister". In his interview with Tom Brokaw, Bush said: "He's my man, he was great," and "I did watch some of his clips. I get a lot of things secondhand, but in the case of the statue or Sahaf, somebody would say, he's getting ready to speak and I'd pop out of a meeting or turn and watch the TV."

When I first read the story, it struck me as odd, but not something to be upset about - but after reading Wil Wheaton's entry on the subject, I have to agree - this is simply unacceptable behaviour on the part of our President.

What?

He's my man?

HE'S MY MAN?!

HE IS THE ENEMY, MR. BUSH!

You know who Bush's MAN should have been? Every American soldier who was in Iraq fighting his immoral, illegal, and totally unnecessary war. Every child who is without a father or mother, every husband or wife, son or daughter who isn't ever coming home . . . they are "your man," Mr. Bush.

Wheaton also comment on Bush's comment that he'd "pop out of a meeting" when told that the Iraqi Information Minister was going to be on TV.
I'm glad the President of the United States, during a war, is jumping out of meetings to watch his "man" on TV. I'm glad Mr. Bush didn't let a silly thing like running the country interfere with his watching his man on TV.
Re-reading Bush's statement, I'm reminded of when I was in college and would find a way to arrange my class schedule so I could watch my soap operas or would occasionally leave a class half-way through so I could go on an afternoon shopping trip with my friends. Its the kind of thing a kid, newly freed from the restraints of his or her parents does - not something an adult - even if he is the leader of the free world - should be doing.

I'm sure some will think that this is nothing to be upset about - but it's the kind of thing that just goes to show how petty, indulgent and juvinile our President is. It's like the stereotypical "adult child" we seen in Hollywood movies - the easily distracted executive who would rather play with his train set than pay attention to reports on how his business is doing, and who's employees indulge him (and cover up for his incompetence) because, well, he IS the boss after all.

Oh. my. Gods. The country is being run by Arthur Carlson. (And you never thought he'd get out of WKRP, did you?)

*Blink*

Wil Wheaton has a website?

Anyway, I watched the interview with him on NBC and didn't necessarily think anything about it. But now after reading this, both you and Wheaton have great points.

*And I can't believe I'm actually agreeing with Wesley Crusher...but oh well* ;-)

hehe - yeah, he's got a website - and it's actually pretty cool. He seems to be a very intelligent man who is involved in what goes on in the world, has some pretty strong opinions on thing and expresses them quite well - and he's pretty funny at times, too. :) Check it out at http://www.wilwheaton.net - and be sure to read his thing about "if it's your first time visiting here" - it's good.

No problem - only took about 10 seconds to fix :)

The guy has a good introduction. I suppose I'm going to sound less-than-plugged-in, but I gather he was some kind of TV star as a kid? Ah well...Could look it up.

The point about "Bush as Kid" on the other hand is intuitively correct, as it explains everything, and has predictive value. How will he respond in a given situation? Like a slightly drunk 17 year old, climbing out of his Camaro, hollering across the lawn that A&M won in the playoffs, yeah!

Lastly, Kriselda, you changed your comment-dealie again, and just when I had grown used to the weird way that people's names would precede the entries, now they're conventionally following them but my eyes and reader's mind have been trained to look above. It's disconcerting. Did you ever think about that? Doubtful. You just play around with these things, for fun, but real people out there get hurt, you know.

Yes, he was -- he played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation for several years :)

As for the comments thingy, well, I can move the name back to the top if you'd like *g* I do need to do a bit more formatting on the comment screen - it's rather plain right now.... and you know how I have this compulsion to tinker.....
