Post-mortem on the League mess
If you want to read an excellent post on the whole matter of what happened with the League of Liberals, Next of Kynn has an excellent overview with links to the major posts on the subject.
Let me just say that he also does an excellent job of expressing a great deal of what I've been feeling about the whole matter. He stuck it out longer than I did, but tried to see if he could affect real change within the group. I'm sorry that he wasn't able to.

Iddybud comments on NZB's site that I "misled" the League by "posing as a liberal" to gain membership.
I'd like to know your thoughts on that.

Well, to be honest, after reading over your site when you applied, I actually thought you were a liberal who was using the communist posting persona for satrical effect. Upon learning you were a conservative who was using the communist posting persona for satrical effect, I was a bit surprised, but I can't say that I - personally - felt misled since I'd never seen or read anything from you that indicated whether you actually were a liberal or conservative. I made an assumption that you were liberal since you had applied for the League of Liberals, but that was an error on my part.
I do find your site to be quite humorous, and occasionally you even have a few good points - I'm glad I found out about it. I suppose others might feel a bit "duped" since we weren't explicitly told that you were a conservative, but at the most it was a "sin of omission" as they say. Like I said, though, for myself, I just see it as me making a bad assumption. I'm not mad about it - I just know to ask more questions (or even some questions, eh?) next time. *g*
Oh, and just for the record, I'm not mad about you pointing out what Barry was doing, either. I do wish that the League as a whole hadn't been tarred over it - especially since it was just Barry doing it. THAT part I am a bit upset about, but that came more from how Bear presented the situation than anything you did, and I'll get over it.
There are a lot of good people in the League and it bothers me that everyone got a bit of a black eye over the whole mess, especially since most of the other League members didn't know a thing about it until it was posted at TTLB. But what he was doing was wrong and it needed to be brought out. I just really wish I'd been paying attention when I got that earlier e-mail where he was talking about it and had said something at that time.

Thanks for the well-considered reply.
Okay. I've learned too. I thought that my satire was broad enough. But if you, or another, looked at it for a few minutes (which is long enough), and reached your conclusion, then the net effect, regardless of intention, was that the LOL welcomed me "as a Liberal." I should have been more explicit.
Honestly, I was puzzled by the League's welcome.
I applied on a whim. Guessing that perhaps I would be rejected, and then I could denounce the LOL as "Trotskyites." When you accepted me, I thought, "Well, well, these Libs have a pretty good sense of humor after all. If I applied as a gag Commie, they're gonna play along. Good for them."

Re: The League vs. Barry
My post, and NZB's first post, were reacting to what seemed to be several "manipulative" LOL blogs. Only later did it become clear that these were all Barry's blogs. At which point, both NZB and I updated/commented to reflect that.
Now that's it's blown over, it's clear that the League really is Barry's baby. I know that NZB had hoped that the League would 'reform' itself, and focus on getting out its message, etc., rather than on trying to 'gig' his system.
With the resignation of you and a handful of LOL members who recognized this as a simple, non-ideological case of "cheating," it seems that the League will remain Barry's. And NZB will simply be added to the list of targets, like Bush, Rush, and Coulter.
