More on the right-to-life/right-to-die cases

Mark Kleiman has a very good article about the Schiavo and two Texas cases that I posted about last night. He looks a bit more at the logic of the law itself and notes that

... the notion of letting the health-care providers decide, after doing a careful biopsy of the patient's wallet, strikes me as pretty damned outrageous. And it seems to me that the Right-to-Lifers ought to agree, though apparently anti-abortion groups had no problem with it when Gov. George W. Bush signed the Texas Futile Care Law.
He makes an excellent point - while some might argue that doctors can make a better decision because they are not emotionally involved in the situation, they - and their hospitals - are financially involved in the decision - and that can easy sway judgements that, on ethical grounds, should perhaps go a different way.
